Clean Water Communities Alternative for Livelihoods (Water donation)
“Increasing water access for rural families and farmers in the in Tanzania”
Many households in the Tanzania lack regular access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities. Low-income households that do purify their water often rely on relatively expensive short-term purification methods. Like many communities in the Tanzania, lacks regular access to water for drinking, and has little-to-no water to spare for irrigating crops. When their drinking water source runs dry, villagers are either forced to purchase costly water or spend hours hauling small quantities of water uphill from distant streams. Much of this labor is often performed by women and children, who are kept from more productive activities such as work and schooling. The L4T looks for simple and cost-effective, yet robust technology solutions. More than simply a technological intervention, our program trains local villagers as certified technicians to maintain the hardware, while also creating a local committee to fairly distribute water and manage a village fund, paid into by the villagers, themselves.
Kimanzichana Water project (Water donation)
A need for clean water for the villages surrounding Hui Farm was found to be the priority after finding out that the villagers around the farm were drinking and using water from the open pond within the farm. These projects have been funded by Lead4Tommorw USA, or with significant participation and donation coordination from Connor Tang, Connor is a junior attending Davis Senior High School. He is also the founder and president of The Village Shed (www.thevillageshed.org). He believes that by understanding life with those who struggle, not only can he build his own character while helping others; in the future he will be able to make a difference on a much wider scale and make the world a much happier and prosperous place. “My dream is to bring people with the same driving passions together in order to benefit those who cannot help themselves. Working with organizations such as Lead4Tomorrow has provided a greater understanding of the varying lifestyles and conditions behind some of society’s most disconnected communities.” In his free time, he enjoys competitive tennis and debate while focusing heavily on volunteer opportunities. The cooperative poultry-farming project outside of Dar es Salaam brings Family Hui participants together in creating small businesses which provides needed income and nutrition, while learning how to create and operate a sustainable business. With very varied costs, donations of different sizes can be put to good use, and make an immediate positive impact within a community.
